Spring 2025 Watchlist

You might be just like me; a latch-key kid all grown-up, endless channels and nothing to watch, eating ice cream for breakfast just because you can. If so- here’s the run down of my official recommendations for this time of year.

The Princes of Malibu

Fast forward to 2025, Spencer Pratt is no longer a villain but you may find yourself asking throughout the day, “Chaka who?

The Pink Panther (1969)

I too would like to reach Anaheim. If only for the orange Dole whip I had once at Disneyland in 2007, and a whiff of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Valentino (1977)

The film Valentino is loosely based on the life of Rudolph Valentino a 1920’s silent film actor, it is perfectly lush and dramatic- perfect for a Saturday afternoon. Valentino first peaked my interest when I came across a luminous photograph of Carol Kane standing with a borzoi (my dream pooch), and later in conversation after recounting my experience at the San Francisco Ballet’s Raymonda production to a retired ballerina who danced during Rudolf Nureyev’s tenure at the American Ballet Theater. This film was a starting point for me in fully appreciating Rudolf Nureyev’s impact and legacy.

A Summer's Tale (1996)

Think of it like a primer for the summer months ahead.

The Met: Live in HD, Salome

Metropolitan Opera Live in HD is a series of live opera performances transmitted in high-definition video via satellite from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City to select venues, primarily movie theaters, in the United States and other parts of the world. I’m really looking forward to this in late May, in the comfort of a San Francisco movie theatre. Especially because I’d read glowing reviews following the premiere at the Vienna State Opera House, and couldn’t quite swing an international trip this season to experience Salome in person.

The Hollywood Group Chat ft. Tokyo Toni

Can’t sleep? Boy, do I have just the thing for you.

Mulholland Drive (2001)

I had the opportunity to finally see this in theater, and I’m sad to report that after my first screening I did need to scour reddit for possible interpretations. I’m happy to report that the guys I showed up with were remarkably unfazed by me pulling out an entire Popeyes Combo Meal.

Gwyneth Paltrow testifying in court for ski crash trial…

This is simply iconic.
