Modern Myth: Aphrodite IX

The Aphrodite IX comic book series inception was in 2000; and was brought to life by writer David Wohl and the artist David Finch, published by the American comics studio Top Cow, an imprint of Image Comics. Aphrodite IX is a self-aware female android designed as a spy and assassin navigating a fractured Earth, who retains no memory of her missions, this amnesia is apparently to protect her masters if not herself.

I personally enjoyed the overall premise of the story line, I also resonated with Aphrodite IX’s soul-searching qualities in the aftermath of amnesia (as much of course as a lab crafted cyborg assassin can muster) a doldrum like state of hangover where her true character is revealed as a cross between an aloof city girl and teeny bopper with sugar running through her veins bouncing off the walls and inattentive. Although with a story so sparse in volume #0-2 and imagery so captivating, Aphrodite IX ultimately left me wanting more. If I were to dive into the reboot and subsequent issues I’d hope there’d be a continuation of the political intrigue,  some character development and resolution.

I highly recommend this series— Aphrodite IX is wicked cool.
